Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ont. Is the home of Canadian democracy and the seat of our federal government. Those stately buildings are among our most famous landmarks and our greatest architectural treasures. And it is here that a nation gathers to celebrate and remember, in the shadow of the tower named for what Canadians value most: peace. Coin brings you to Parliament Hill for a view of the Centennial Flame and Centre Block. THIRD COIN CELEBRATES AN ICON OF DEMOCRACY : Coin #3 features one of our most famous landmarks and our greatest architectural treasures. THIS IS CANADA: Celebrate some of the sights and experiences that make Canada unique! Each coin highlights a famous Canadian symbol or scene that has shaped this nation's image and filled our hearts with Canadian pride. SIX ICONS, SIX ARTISTS: Every coin in this series is designed by a different Canadian artist for a different take on some of the most famous images of Canada.

A DOSE OF CANADIANA : This series is your dose of Canadiana in 2020 and it will add several iconic Canadian images to your collection. A UNIFORM LOOK : The curve text ("CANADA"), date ("2020") and maple flourish are the unifying features of this series. You'll find them on the reverse of all six coins, where they complete our 2020 celebration of Canada.

Design: Designed by artist Laurie McGaw, the reverse features a view of one of Canada's most famous landmarks: Parliament Hill in the nation's capital, Ottawa. The Centennial Flame in the foreground represents hope and commemoration as the flame rises up and transforms into maple leaves.

Behind the monument is the Centre Block building and iconic Peace Tower. The reverse includes the curve text "CANADA" above a maple flourish and the year "2020".

The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. On February 3, 1916, fire suddenly swept through the original Centre Block building. The Library of Parliament was spared but the rest of the building needed to be rebuilt. A new Centre Block opened in 1920 and Canada's most famous campanile (a freestanding bell tower), the Peace Tower, was officially inaugurated on July 1, 1927. The Peace Tower houses a 53-bell carillon. From September to June, the Dominion Carillonneur plays a 15-minute recital every weekday at noon; in July and August, the program lasts a full hour. The daily program begins with "O Canada, " followed by varied selections from classical music to contemporary tunes. The Centennial Flame was first lit on January 1, 1967. It was to burn for one year but it was so popular that it was made permanent fixture. The Centre Block building seen on this coin is currently undergoing major renovations. But if you're in Ottawa, guided tours of the Senate of Canada Building, the House of Commons (now in the West Block) and the East Block are still being offered. Packaging: Each coin is encapsulated and makes an attractive collection when all six coins are shown in your display case. Claude Thivierge (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse).
