1992 Canada Proof Silver $1 Kingston to York Stagecoach 1st Year of Stirling

This is the real deal - the first year the Royal Canadian Mint switched the annual silver dollar to. Full 25.175 grams of sterling, packing nearly 0.75 oz of actual silver. The design is pure early-Canadian grit: a four-horse stagecoach charging through the snow between Kingston and York (old Toronto) in 1817, coachman in full control. Still sealed in the original RCM capsule, red velvet case, outer box.

History: In 1817 the first regular stagecoach service linked Kingston and York, cutting travel time dramatically across Upper Canada and helping open the region for settlement and commerce. Exact Mintage: Proof: 187,612. Lower mintage than most of the earlier half-silver dollars. Why They Were Made: Issued to mark the 175th anniversary of the start of stagecoach service between Kingston and York. A classic transportation theme that fits right in with the Mint's 1980s-90s historical series. Who Made Them: Reverse designed by Vancouver artist Karsten Smith. Obverse is the Dora de Pédery-Hunt crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (first used in 1990).
